A new Excel/Python page and the end of xlrd/xlwt
excelpython.org
The new Python for Excel hub
presents currently 16 open-source Python libraries to work with Excel. It covers all topics from reader/writer libraries over automation libraries to formula parsers and VBA-to-Python translators.
xlrd, xlwt and xlutils are now unmaintained
It hasn't exactly come
, but xlrd/xlwt/xlutils are now archived on GitHub as John Macchin, one of the main authors/maintainers,
. This is the official note: "This library currently has no active maintainers. You are advised to use OpenPyXL instead. If you absolutely have to read .xls files, then xlrd will probably still work for you, but please do not submit issues complaining that this library will not read your corrupted or non-standard file. Just because Excel or some other piece of software opens your file does not mean it is a valid xls file."
xlwings: Revised PRO and Enterprise plans
Over the last couple of months, we've been working together with our first PRO clients to improve the commercial offering to better cover the needs of our users.
Most importantly, starting with v0.19, xlwings PRO is now integrated in the standard xlwings package. The only thing you need to unlock the additional features is a license key. You can get a trial license key from
.
Furthermore, we have turned xlwings PRO into a single developer's license with royalty-free deployment, meaning that receivers of an xlwings PRO tool do not need to be a licensed user themselves.
xlwings Enterprise is a customizable offer targeted at slightly bigger teams with more than 1 developer. Additional features are priority support & bug fixes, voting power on roadmap and access to video training.
The additional features of the commercial plans currently cover Python code embedded in Excel, template based reporting, 1-click/0-config installers for easy deployment and support for Plotly charts (upcoming with 0.19.2). New features will constantly be added.
